Students involved in protests have announced that they will bring their cases to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

Relatives of the wounded policemen during the protest September 18 in Quito, have indicated that they will also take legal action.

Parents of the students of the Mejia School, in Quito have announced that they they will take their cases to the Attorney General and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). One of the actions they would carry out, would be the complaint against the police for alleged injuries. The document will be ready on Monday.

Meanwhile, the students involved in the protests of September 18, may not attend school as long as the disciplinary action against them takes place. The investigation will determine whether the students participated in the event.

The Federation of High School Students of Ecuador (FESE) supported their peers and rejects the sanctions. Punishment, according to them, would be for 110 students from 10 schools.

In a statement, the Ministry of Education ensured that the youths involved in the disciplinary proceedings will have to do directed tasks and they will get a tutor to ensure that even suspended they will not miss school.

By Monday, October 20, parents will have a hearing with the school Principal, Jaime Torres, to address the issue. They seek to prove the innocence of their children with their certificates of class attendance conferred by the Mejia School authorities.
