The UN special rapporteur for human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shahid, on Monday condemned the execution of the young woman Reihané Jabari, executed for killing the man who, according to her, tried to rape her, and warned of the deteriorating situation in the country.

“I am shocked by the execution on the weekend of Mrs. Reihané Jabari,” Shahid said at a news conference in which he said that the country’s authorities never provided answers to the doubts raised about the trial.

Also asked about the case, a spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, reminded today that the organization opposes to capital punishment in all cases.

In his press conference, Shahid said that the violations of the right to life are their primary concern regarding human rights in Iran.

“I’ve seen an increase in executions in the country in recent months,” said the UN expert, who said that at least 852 people were executed between July last year and June this year, including eight minors.
