Barack Obama and his Mexican counterpart Enrique Pena Nieto met this Tuesday at the White House in order to implement the cooperation between the two countries for the implementation of its new policies on immigration and Cuba.

Obama requires the support of Pena Nieto, and his pressure to Cuba to implement democratic reforms, now that Washington and Havana have decided to resume full diplomatic relations.

Pena Nieto’s agenda also included the disclosure of requirements to be met by immigrants, in order to benefit from the protection plan against the deportation of about 4 million immigrants living in the US without authorization.

In parallel, dozens of demonstrators protested outside the White House during the meeting of the leaders, some held signs about the missing students.

Regarding this case, Human Rights Watch on Monday requested to Obama a firmer posture against the human rights situation in Mexico.

In addition, the US vice president, Joe Biden, and Mexican Finance Minister Luis Videgaray previously held a bilateral meeting to address economic issues in the Eisenhower building, near the White House.
