ILO criticizes method of “compulsory purchase of resignation” in public sector

The International Labour Organization (ILO), through a report of the Commission of Experts on Application of Conventions and Recommendations, suggests several changes to the labor legislation in Ecuador in order to conform Convention 98, concerning to the collective bargaining in the public sector.

The Commission requests to the Government to take “necessary measures” so that the legislation includes a provision ensuring the protection against anti-union discrimination.

And it refers to the case 2926, sent by the Freedom of Association Committee, which refers to anti-union dismissals in the public sector through the use of the “compulsory purchase of resignation” concept.

In this regard, Assemblyman Fausto Cayambe (AP), member of the Commission on Rights of Workers, said that “before the workers left office with nothing, today they are leaving office with indemnification,” and between 2011 and 2014, 5,457 people have left office with $ 158’172.238.
