Mayor Ledezma is “firm in his convictions” despite imprisonment
The mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma, who was arrested last Thursday and charged of conspiring against the government of Nicolas Maduro, is well and “firm in his convictions,” said on Monday the wife of the politician and opposition spokespersons.
“His spirit and his health are intact, as we are used to see Antonio, a strong, tough man, and absolutely convinced that all they can accuse of is a lie,” told reporters Ledezma’s wife, Mitzi Capriles.
“We must continue struggling to restore democracy in Venezuela (…) a day that passes is one day less of this opprobrious government,” she added.
Ledezma was arrested on Thursday by officials of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service in the headquarters of his party, and on Friday was charged by conspiracy and association to commit a crime, by being linked to an alleged coup plan along with other opposition members.
Opposition leaders of the Democratic Unity Roundtable have asked the Organization of American States (OAS) to “urgently” call the foreign ministers and heads of state to assess the situation in Venezuela.
