“The safeguard measures start tomorrow and already some people have raised the price,” Correa said yesterday

President Rafael Correa said that certain operators in the country – “incited by certain media” would be trying to create a stage of speculation in the country following tariff surcharges imposed by the national government.

The President said: “We have reports that there is speculation. The safeguards are getting to work tomorrow and already some people have raised prices, so you see how they act and how certain agents are incited by certain media.”.

Correa, likewise, acknowledged that the tariff measure taken by his regime will have a “very limited” impact in the final consumer, and regretted that private media “do their best to confuse and create chaos and are looking to create speculation “.

“They are affecting 40% of imported products, in its mayority, luxury goods and consumer durables which replacement can be postponed. The staples remain virtually intact,” said Correa.
