Ecuadorians living in Spain claim against cost-cutting measures.

In an interview with EFE, Eduardo Plaza, Ecuadorian activist, said that the resident community in Spain wants “that cost-cutting measures that have been applied in every way and which affect the welfare state are eliminated.”

Nearly three hundred and fifty Ecuadorians attended the demonstration last Friday in Madrid on the occasion of the Labor Day, adding to the tens of thousands of people who gathered at the Plaza de Cibeles, in Madrid, to demand an end to the cutting policy.

“There is an extremely high level of unemployment in the most vulnerable immigrants and people of advanced age sectors, in the young people sector and, in that sense, our position is joint in terms of demanding the implementation of measures to encourage employment,” said Eduardo Plaza.

Elena Tito, of the Ecuadorian Committee of the plaform of Affected People by the Mortgage, also said to Efe that “more than a march for the Labor Day, it was a vindication” for the current situation of unemployment in Spain, “which particularly affects the Ecuadorians.”

Approximately 400,000 Ecuadorians living in Spain, according to official figures, making this community one of the most numerous among the residents of countries not belonging to the European Union.
