The recent entry of ships over 300 meters long, that need 13 or 14 meters draught to enter loaded to the city, rose again a discussion. A document to which Daily Expreso had access indicates that there sedimented parts. It is the result of bathymetry made in June 2015 in an area of 18.5 kilometers in the most critical part of the canal. This critical part is between buoys 40 and 58, and an additional section between buoys 59 and 60.

Shipowners and captains told Daily Expreso, that ships of up to 306 meters long arrive, but enter with less cargo. The Ganges and the Mataquito came with 2,800 containers and their capacity exceeds 6,600 TEUs (20-foot containers).
