Assembly members of the opposition agreed on a joint position against the amendments to the Constitution. They needed two meetings (behind closed doors) to reach a consensus.

What did they resolve? First, a public manifesto. The opposition called on citizens to exercise their right to resistance. They said they will accompany the people during the demonstrations. They condemned “the imposition of reforms to the Constitution.” And in addition, they agreed “not to legitimize the spurious constitutional amendment process with their votes.”

They will vote against the reform package. The two meetings of the six opposition groups represented in the Assembly were in the office of Ramiro Aguilar (ind). The first was in the evening and night of Tuesday.

Gilmar Gutierrez, of PSP, said to Daily Expreso that legislators from all political parties were present at the meeting, some via telephone. Is this the first agreement? To reject the package of amendments and defend democracy. Of course, he clarified that in any case the dialogues have some “electoral nature.”
