The intervention of Juan Carlos Cassinelli, president of the Casual Commission Amendments, lasted fifty minutes, as a preamble to open the debate and introduction, this after three hours of reading the report of the draft constitutional amendments, a document of 116 pages in the 360th session of the National Assembly.
For the rapporteur of the project this is a “historic day, as the proposal is debated in front of people and with a territorial Assembly.” Outside, the opposition shows posters that reject the speed with which the voting session was convened.
Despite the insistence of political leaders and a couple of struggles with the police, the opposition stood outside the police cordon that from 05:45 on Thursday, surrounded the National Assembly.
Dozens of citizens who were protesting carried Ecuadorian flags flying, while giant banners of the Communist Party -once allies of the government- were installed on the streets near the place where tires were burnt down as a way of protest against the speed with which the ruling party tries to analyze the draft amendments.
Amid the anti- correist slogans, Carlos Perez Guartambel, president of the ECUARUNARI, announced that, beyond the amendments, the indigenous uprising will continue and will gradually adding critical voices. He said that in the afternoon more protesters would arrive.
