5 Economic topics will mark the agenda this year

Posted On 14 Jan 2016

Five economic topics will be key this year according to the debate generated among the panelists who participated Tuesday night in the dialogue “Facing the Future,” with the participation of President Rafael Correa.

Growth, trade balance, financing, investment and unemployment are issues of concern for analysts and the Government itself, which works on strategies to improve indicators in all these areas.

Despite that, questions about the future of national economy remain.

Correa explained that the country is no longer the same as seven years ago. He said that Ecuador is the country that has best transformed the oil boom in welfare and highlighted the enormous work in roads, hydroelectric plants, social investment, etc.

The President said that this year the country will reach a growth of 1%, but analysts and former authorities believe that the slowdown of last year will continue this year with impacts on employment. Another problem is the lack of access to financing due to falling oil prices, which will mean a new downturn in the public investment level during the current year.
