“Just to paint a bad image of me”
Like this, Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa described a video in which he claims he will arrest anyone who disturbs public order in Esmeraldas, one of the provinces hit by the earthquake on April 16.
The images of the president last Thursday circulated in social networks and media causing reactions of surprise, annoyance and outrage, but also several users defended Correa´s attitude in the midst of the crisis caused by the earthquake.
The Ecuadorean president, according to a report of Paul Mena Erazo, a BBC World correspondent in Ecuador, referred to the incident during his regular weekly address.
“Just to paint a bad image of me, there is a video in which I supposedly order the poor victims to shut up or I will send them to jail. And then they cut the video because people clap,” Correa said (I).
