Weekly Address No. 472: the president spent a week in the disaster area and did not understand anything
This is the central message of this weekly address, 472, Rafael Correa starts with a tiny and sad voice, easy to forget after a few minutes. This weekly address riddled with crisis, without an audience, without songs, without giant screens, without portable mega-structures, without paraphernalia, without a show, without Secos Guerreros and guest performers … And yet, a weekly address like any other in which the president does not lose the opportunity to settle scores with his enemies, he mops the floor with Enrique Ayala and Guillermo Lasso, he says “we are more, many more,” he would speak for three and a half hours and dispatches the usual summary of activities-this time and for having failed to broadcast two previous weekly addresses- he would include anecdotes of three weeks: the support concentration in the Plaza Grande, his birthday celebrated in Carondelet, a movie premiere in New York and Chicago, his academic activity in Rome, the earthquake……
It’s all under control. Therefore, the earthquake is only another issue included in the themes of the presidential agenda: a day of reports with peers in the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences in the Vatican, the next day you walk among marginals who have lost everything and you threat ( because it must be this way, those who have not been in the disaster zone have no idea) to put in jail those who complain. That is greatness……
