Concern among civil society groups in the region

The crisis of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) concerns civil society organizations inside and outside the country.
A coalition of groups and citizens of several countries appealed to members of the Organization of American States (OAS) “to take the necessary measures to ensure its immediate and adequate funding.”
This is expressed in an open letter released on Wednesday, supported by 350 signatories.
There, they point out that the IACHR is “the last line of defense against the rights violations on the continent.” And the agency has done a “great job” to defend citizens from different conditions, cultures and beliefs.
“The role of the Commission, not only in the field of protection of rights but also of action to promote compliance, reaches almost one billion inhabitants in the region,” noted the statement.
