Police officers needed to support the ISSPOL

The different wage scales turn it ineffective. The base of young officers that sustains the retirees is reduced. These warnings appear in research published seven months ago by the Faculty of Economics of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador (PUCE).

The study analyzes the situation of retirement insurance, disability and death within the ISSPOL in the 2003-2014 period. Currently, these benefits are considered the most important because of the high amounts disbursed each year. An example of this: in 2015, the institution paid pensions by USD 253.6 million to its 21,226 retired agents.

Indeed, the economic future of the ISSPOL is the argument used by the government to propose a package of reforms to that body and the ISSFA (military social insurance). “The sustainability and efficiency of social security systems and their benefits require that their administrations envisage appropriate standards,” says the document submitted to the Assembly by Rafael Correa on July 18.
