The new setback of Correa
The government got into an unnecessary trouble this week, concerning the transfer made by the Ministry of Finance to pay debts to State suppliers in Esmeraldas and Manabi. For such purpose, the Government, through a confidential letter, took $ 120 million from the subaccount created after the entry into force of the Solidarity Act, proposed to help the Earthquake victims, and put it into the single treasury account for subsequent payments.
So far it is not known which suppliers from these provinces were paid and for what reasons. Or if the delays in question came or not before the April earthquakes. Certainly the Government proceeded correctly, but the accounting explanations presented by the ministry, through a public statement, did not please the opposition, that took the opportunity to corner the government.
Assemblyman Virgilio Hernandez (Alianza Pais) had no choice but to demand accountability from his own minister, since, what would be left from his histrionic speech last May when he called “indolent” to opposition legislators for not supporting the Solidarity Act?
