CNE-ECUADORTIMES

One hundred overseers of the National Electoral Council (CNE) review two and a half million signatures that will determine how many political organizations will participate in the elections of February 2017.

A total of 35 political organizations, of which 27 are national and provincial, and 8 are cantonal submitted within the deadline (July 18), around 2’530.458 signatures in total for their verification.

In the Electoral Registry of the CNE 160 political organizations are registered, of which five are political parties, eight national movements, 50 provincial movements, 83 cantonal movements and 14 parochial movements.

According to the Code of Democracy, organizations must meet 1.5% of the electoral register, that is, 174,199 qualified signatures. Only national parties may nominate candidates for President.

The last two national organizations policies qualified by the National Electoral Council (CNE) were the Democratic Left (ID), and Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante (AEA). The latter replaces the extinct Institutional Renewal Party of National Action (Prian) founded by former banker Alvaro Noboa.
