Shrimp farmers will also resort to the WTO for restrictions in Brazil

Ecuadornews:

The two most important sectors of the Ecuadorian economy are willing to do everything so that Brazil opens its doors, closed by restrictions considered illegal and detrimental to trade.
Yesterday, the executive president of the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) José Antonio Camposano, revealed the intention to resort to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to demand the opening of Brazilian imports to Ecuadorian shrimp.
Brazilian producers say that Ecuadorian shrimp has 13 diseases whereas Brazilian shrimp has only four. The International Health Organization has confirmed only seven diseases, which are common in both countries.
In the case of bananas, Brazilian farmers are afraid of being affected by the entry of a better quality fruit from Ecuador, but the President of the Association of Banana Exporters (AEBE) Eduardo Ledesma has said that the sector aims at a premium market.
The truth is that there is a significant gap in the trade balance between both countries and Ecuador is affected. Between January and May of this year, Brazilian goods were imported for a value of $ 314 million, compared to the $ 52 million sold by Ecuador. (I)
