Topic confesses that he paid $ US5 million in bribes to Glas’s uncle

Businessman Tomislav Topic, the owner of Telconet, confessed to the prosecutor’s office last week that he paid a total of $ 5 million in commissions to Ricardo Rivera Aráuz, the uncle of Vice President Jorge Glas, for serving as a nexus to close negotiations, reported the Ecuavisa network.
Telconet has been a contractor for both the Ecuadorian state and the Brazilian company Odebrecht. Rivera is under house arrest and currently tried for illicit association.
“Mr. Ricardo Rivera asked us as a commission for having put us in contact with these investors, which we agreed to and we have paid him an amount of 5 million 700 thousand dollars from 2009 until 2017,” said Topic under oath.
“In 2010 he asked for another commission for a business that we had obtained with Odebrecht (…) concerning Odebrecht, the commission to Rivera was for 1 million dollars and the commission of the Chinese for about 4 million for links services.” (I).
