Hybrid cars sales grew 197% in 2017

Posted On 30 Jan 2018

Ecuadornews:

Ecuador is the country in the region that recorded the highest number of sales of this type of vehicle between January and August of last year. The commercialization of hybrid vehicles grew in the country from 1,103 units in 2016 to 3,298 in 2017, which means an increase of 197%, according to figures from the Chamber of the Ecuadorian Automotive Industry (Cinae)

In the same way, the sale of Electricity vehicles increased from 90 in 2016 to 136 last year, which reflects an increase of 51%. For Genaro Baldeón, president of the Association of automotive companies of Ecuador (Aeade), the trend of Ecuadorian consumers is linked to the need for sustainable mobility and protection of the environment, “which implies having better fuel quality, vehicles efficient and have comprehensive policies for the renovation of the automotive park “.

Data from the Aeade reveal that from January to August of 2017, 2,686 hybrid cars were sold in Latin America and only 1,937 of these vehicles were sold in Ecuador. “Which means that we are at the forefront of the region in terms of what efficient mobility represents,” said the businessman.

According to Fernando León, owner of a yard for the purchase and sale of cars in the north of the capital, customers who prefer hybrid vehicles do so because of the advantages they offer compared to traditional cars, basically because of the savings they represent as for fuel and for an ecological conscience.

He explained, for example, that one of the advantages is that hybrid cars, which sell between $ 20,000 and $ 50,000, once finished their electric charge can continue to circulate thanks to the gasoline engine that is incorporated. “Even if the car’s battery is almost completely exhausted, as long as there is gasoline in the vehicle’s tank, it will be able to continue circulating,” said León. In addition to charge the battery does not require to connect to an electrical network, its just enough that the car circulates. (I)
