Ecuador condemns the use of violence for political purposes in Venezuela

Posted On 06 Aug 2018

Ecuadornews:

Ecuador condemned on August 5 “the violent acts” that took place on Saturday, August 4 in Caracas and that “endangered the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro,” as well as the “use of violence to achieve political ends.”

“The Republic of Ecuador expresses its firm rejection and censure the violent events that took place on August 4 in Caracas, during the commemoration ceremonies of the 81st anniversary of the Bolivarian National Guard,” reads an official statement issued by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.

The text mentions that these acts “caused several injuries and endangered the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, his companions and other attendees to the official act.”

“Ecuador condemns the use of violence to achieve political ends, wherever it comes from, because it transgresses the basic principles of democratic work and the universal respect due to human rights,” the document adds.

The Ecuadorian Executive also expresses that the “overcoming of political divergences among Venezuelans should only operate through peaceful channels.”

It also advocates that dissensions be addressed from a national dialogue without exclusions, including those of those deprived of liberty for thinking differently and in an environment of full respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The Venezuelan Information Minister, Jorge Rodríguez, confirmed that Maduro left yesterday unscathed from an attack with “drone-type flying devices that contained an explosive charge”, launched against him while presiding over a military parade in Caracas.

According to the minister, several drones with explosive charges detonated in the vicinity of the presidential platform, leaving seven soldiers wounded slightly.

The Venezuelan president blamed the outgoing president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, in a video for being behind an alleged attack on his life, a claim that Bogota claims has no basis. (I)
