Ecuadorian traveled to the USA with a cooked pig in his suitcase

US officials found a cooked pig in the luggage of a citizen from Ecuador. As reported by the Fox5 channel in Atlanta, the discovery was made thanks to a can of the K-9 unit that sniffed the typical dish inside the traveler’s suitcase.

The events took place on October 11, 2018 when Hardy, a dog member of the Beagles brigade at the Atlanta airport smelled something “suspicious” in the suitcase of a traveler from Ecuador, the paper reported.

When officers examined the bag they found the head of the pig that weighed approximately two pounds, according to reports. Speaking to Fox5, Carey Davis, director of the customs office at the Atlanta airport, said that “the best defense against destructive pests and animal diseases is to prevent the entry of prohibited agriculture into the United States.”

He added that “what happened in Atlanda testifies to the ability of our four-legged members of K-9 to protect the United States.” The entry of pig products from other continents is prohibited in the USA.

This in order to prevent diseases such as swine flu from reaching the territory. According to Fox5, Hardy entered the US Customs and Border Protection office after training in Georgia in the program of the Department of Agriculture specialized in forming detector dogs.

It’s not the first time a dog detects a pig at the Atlanta airport. In 2016 another member of the K9 unit named Joey detected a whole pig in the luggage of a traveler from Peru. (I)
