Raisa Vulgarin, Rafael Correa’s candidate, would be involved with Nicolas Petro from Colombia

In Colombia, investigations into the alleged entry of drug money into the campaign of President Gustavo Petro continue. The Prosecutor’s Office is investigating some  27 people , confirmed Óscar Ramírez, a political and judicial journalist for Noticias RCN and NTN24. 

Today the hearing is resumed for the case of drug money entering Gustavo Petro’s campaign.

In an interview with EcuadorTV, given this Friday, August 4, 2023, the communicator indicated that the last week has been complex, since initially Nicolás Petro, son of the President of Colombia, denied the accusations for the crime of illicit enrichment. 

However, the Prosecutor’s Office carried out a sustained investigation on the subject and has elements of conviction that they collected over five months. Given this, Petro decided to collaborate and signed a 10-point commitment . One of the most important is that he will expose more people linked to this case. 

The Prosecutor’s Office has also said that Nicolás received money from a man known as ‘ Malboro ‘. At 09:30 this Friday, August 04, 2023, the hearing will continue. In addition, he said that apparently “there is a person close to him who became a key witness. He is not an undercover agent but someone who works with Nicolás”. 

Regarding Raisa Vulgarín , substitute candidate for national assembly member for the Revolucion Ciudadana political party, Ramírez maintained that in the nine hours of hearing that took place yesterday, Thursday, August 3, 2023, nothing was mentioned about her. It is unknown how she is linked. 

Did Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, know about the income of money from drug trafficking? Apparently the president did not know about the subject, he has even said that if that were the case, he should resign his position. “However, Nicolás said that he could demonstrate how he was transported, meetings with people, what the resources were used for and how he penetrated.”

How has the opposition reacted? The journalist mentioned that today is expected to be a hectic day because the blocks of Congress will meet to try to call Petro to the podium. For his part, Álvaro Uribe, former president, stated that he was not happy about anyone’s misfortunes because he also has children.
