A 6 Degrees Quake Affected the Northern Regions of Chile
A six-degree seism in the Richter scale was felt in the regions of Coquimbo and Antofagasta, in the North of Chile. However no damages were reported.
According to the Seismology Institute of the University of Chile the tremor was located at 07:39 (GMT) and its epicenter was under the sea at 39 kilometers west of La Serena. The National Emergency Office (Onemi) pointed out that the seism was perceived with an intensity of V grade.
The recent report informed that the quake affected the regions of La Serena, Coquimbo, Vicuña, Paiguano, Ovalle and La Higuera; the intensity was less in the sectors of Combarbala, Salamanca, Illapel, Monte Patria, Punitaqui and Canela. Afterwards two seisms occurred in Antofagasta at 10:23-10:29 (GMT) with a magnitude of 4,3 and 4,5. (AV)
