A palette of colors among the alliances of the ruling party

Posted On 03 Mar 2017

PAIS’ allies had different fates. Only seven of the thirteen political organizations that make up the United Front reached some seats in the future National Assembly.
For them, the elections results may be the difference between staying in the electoral registry or not. For PAIS its presence has a more immediate benefit: it guarantees the majority in the plenary of the Legislature.
According to the preliminary distribution of the seats, PAIS would have only 52 legislators on its own. Far from the 69 seats, it needs to have a simple majority. And that’s when the 22 ‘allies’ become more important.
In the period that is about to end, the ruling party has already suffered the consequences of a rupture. The five assembly members of the Avanza party joined the opposition after the separations of Unidos. The difference? PAIS, with a large block, did not lose the control of the Legislature.
