Wednesday President Rafael Correa told international media reporters that the candidate of his party (Alianza PAIS) Lenin Moreno would go to the second round of elections in April against the CREO-SUMA candidate Guillermo Lasso.
“We are going to have a second round and we will win, Lasso is the easiest candidate to defeat. We should not forget his background, we know the millions he has, the decision is in the hands of the citizens,” the president said in statements broadcast by NTN24.
“We were half a point to win in a single round,” Correa said during a meeting with the foreign press at the government palace in Quito.
Amid the silence of the electoral authorities, Rafael Correa said that almost 99% of the votes have already been counted, and he said that the Andean parliamentarians of his party won, in addition to the victory of the Yes in the referendum on tax havens, and he even stated that he had obtained an absolute majority in the Assembly.
“Everything tells us that we will win in the second round. In fact, in all scenarios the most likely candidate to defeat is Guillermo Lasso,” he added.
