A traveler can enter the country by air 48 goods as personal effects and without tax

The passenger or family group that enters the country by air can enter 48 types of goods as personal effects; that is, they do not tax. The National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae) details on its website that personal effects are considered those that due to their quantity or value cannot be considered commercial.

Among the list of personal effects that you can enter are: clothing, toiletries, medicines for personal use, pets as pets, electrical appliances, among other products with their specifications.

If the passenger or family group is in possession of more units than those indicated in the list, they will be considered taxable goods; therefore, its value will be part of the taxable base of the tax obligation. In addition, up to 1 unit, new or used of the following items are considered personal effects.

It is also considered as personal effects that accompany the passenger, a good or group of goods, not specified above and that has no restrictions by volume, quantity or size, whose value does not exceed USD 500.

If the goods exceed the value of USD 500 the payment of taxes must be made. In addition, the total of the goods cannot exceed USD 2,000. When the amount is higher, the merchandise cannot be shipped in the International Travelers’ Lounge.

In this case, the traveler will have 5 working days from the arrival of the goods to indicate the destination that will give these goods. According to the website of the Senae, the passenger can request the return abroad, the express abandonment or the mobilization of the taxable goods to the temporary deposit, in order to continue with the respective process.
