Abdala Bucaram criticized El Universo on Twitter
Ecuadorian former president, Abdala Bucaram, in exile in Panama, criticized through his twitter account, @abdalabucaram, newspaper El Universo . He denied that he has made critical statements against the government of president Rafael Correa.
“Look how perverse is El Universo Newspaper, they say I make political allusions when I refuse to do it,” he posted on Twitter this morning, the first of more than thirty tweets against the newspaper, and some of its columnists.
His post is a reaction to a report published in El Universo newspaper on the incursion of Ecuadorian politicians on Twitter. The newspaper says on Bucaram that he “criticizes the government of Rafael Correa, despite his political refugee status prevents him to do it” It adds: “So when he writes something extra, he tends to erase messages such as when Dalo (his son) filed a protection against rising electricity rates and the regime have accused him of fraudulent connections. Bucaram called miserable the energy authorities.”
Bucaram has denied everything almost in despair. “After 15 years it is displeasure to see how El Universo lies about my performance on twitter. I do not write about politics but they slander saying otherwise. “”This despicable position of El Universo shows they deserve all possible judgments and a law to stop defamation.”
In one of the tweets, Bucaram praised the style of the journalism of Pancho Jaime, who in the nineties published an underground magazine in which defamed and insulted politicians. “Pancho Jaime could be hard but did not lie,” says in comparison to El Universo.
