According to Rafael Correa “Academically, we are not in crisis”
During his last weekly address, the president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, stated there is an economic crisis in the country. He said this is “another old story” the opposition is trying to position, because according to the latter, his regime “has done nothing to tackle the crisis.”
“I already got tired ….” Call it as you please, crisis, recession. Academically, we know we are not in crisis,” he said. “If they want to mischievously call it crises … eehh! In good time crises are like these! right? Because the crisis of 1999, occurred because of them, here we have the collapse in oil prices, a terrible international context. The 1999 crisis was planned to deregulate the banking, for neoliberalism ends. That was a crisis! GDP decreased by 6%. Unemployment rose to 16%. this crisis is so good we grow by 0.4%. We have 4.7% unemployment. This is another achievement of the citizen’s revolution.”
