Activity of the Tungurahua volcano continues to increase
The Geophysical Institute (IG) of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, said that yesterday the seismic activity of the Tungurahua volcano increased to generate 30 explosions and constant emissions of gas and ash, while last Sunday only seven explosions were registered.
The eruptive activity of the volcano started approximately ten days ago, and scientists who monitored its behavior predict that it will go on for a few more days.
The IG reported that in the last 24 hours there were around 60 internal minor earthquakes and 35 periods of constant tremor (tremor Foundation) by the output of gas and ash., and that it could be seen a flow of pyroclastic rocks (hot rocks) which descended by a ravine of the Northwest side, but it stopped 200 metres of the scarp under the rim of the crater.
Also, sources of the Tungurahua Volcano Observatory (OVT), pointed out that due to the wind, the ash emanating from the volcano has fallen on nearby towns, located in the West and Southwest sides like Cevallos, Quero, Mocha, and Tisaleo Pillate.
