Actors Sean Penn and Kate del Castillo met with “Chapo” Guzman in October 2015

American actor Sean Penn and Mexican actress Kate del Castillo had a top secret meeting with the drug lord Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman. This was revealed in an interview published on Saturday, January 9 in the Rolling Stone magazine.

Entitled “El Chapo speaks,” the magazine recounts “the secret visit to the most wanted man in the world,” in the article, Sean Pean details how the meeting he and actress had with “El Chapo” took place, and the interview, which then continued via phone and video, according to Infobae translations. He relates that “Chapo” started as a kid in the world of drug trafficking because there was no other way of life in his village.

The meeting was intended to make only the interview for the magazine, _ but Penn echoes that Guzman had expressed interest in the production of a film about his life.

Several days later the area was the subject of an intense search by the Mexican authorities, something that, according to the actor, prevented the second formal encounter and cooled the contact with intermediaries.

After the publication, a federal official who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the AFP news agency that the meeting was helpful for the capture of Guzman.
