Affiliation case of Alianza Pais goes to Court
The National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) sent two complaints filed before the agency against four dignitaries from Alianza Pais (AP) to the Litigious Electoral Tribunal (TCE). The agency investigates the alleged use of public assets and resources for political purposes.
The accusations of the Popular Unity (UP) and the National Agreement for Electoral Transparency political movements against government legislators Marcela Aguinaga, Byron Valle and Monica Brito and councilwoman Lidice Aldas reached the CNE. They were identified for allegedly using several public institutions for two days during the AP door to door affiliation campaign in Guayaquil.
On July 26, during the session of the CNE, at the main port, council president Juan Pablo Pozo said that when there is a presumption of electoral offenses involving use of public resources, it is up to tne TCE to evaluate and sentence. “What the CNE has made, based on the Code of Democracy and its own regulations, is to open the file, ask for the legal report and transfer it to the TCE, which will begin the process.” (I)
