Afghan Government Released a Report Of The Prison of Bagram
The Afghan government released a report detailing the irregularities in the prison of Bagram (near Kabul, capital of Afghanistan), which is led by U.S. and Afghan troops.
“During our visit to the prison, some prisoners have complained of having been tortured,” said Gul Rahman Qazi, president of the Control Commission of the Constitution, who visited Bagram at the request of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
In Bagram, there are approximately 3,000 prisoners, mostly Taliban. Qazi said that there are prisoners who are deprived of food, he also said there were “fewer cases of abuse” on the Afghan side of the prison in the U.S. “The existence of prisons run by foreigners in Afghanistan is absolutely forbidden by our constitution,” said Qazi.
“We take seriously any allegation of abuse of a prisoner,” said Victoria Nuland, spokesman for the U.S. State Department, who said President Barack Obama “has long worked with Afghanistan to transfer the detention of a form and appropriate according to a timetable.”
