Agca: Iran attempted to kill the Pope John Paul II
Mehmet Ali Agca, the Turk who attempted to assassinate Pope John Paul II confirmed that the spiritual leader of the Iranian revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini, was the one who gave the order to kill the pope. The information was revealed yesterday in Italy through a book that has caused scandal.
The book, written in first person with the title ‘I was the promised paradise‘, tells the story of Agca and the truth about the attack on the Pope. The text argues that Agca met the Ayatollah Khomeini, after escaping prison for killing a journalist and who indoctrinated in Iran.
“Dear Ali its Allah. Do not have any doubts. You must kill the Pope in the name of Allah. You must kill the devil’s spokesman on Earth, the vicar of Satan in the world,” said Khomeini during a night talk, as Agca narrates in his book.
Meanwhile, the Vatican denied that Agca said that personally to the late pontiff, that the orchestrator of the attack was the Ayatollah Khomeini, they also denied that the Holy Branch considers this revelation as a possible Islamic clue.
