Agricultural yields plummeted
EcuadorNews:
Two relevant data show the results of the latest Survey of Surface and Agricultural Production (Espac, 2016) conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC): agricultural work decreased as well as the yields per hectare during last year.
In spite of that, this sector is the mainstay of dollarization because, together with aquaculture and fishing, it is the great generator of dollars. All the most important products had a deterioration in productivity, except potatoes. The yield of sugarcane, for example, fell from 98.48 tons per hectare in 2015 to 82.76 tons in 2016, And the one that suffered the least was rice (from 4.41 to 4.19 tons). Bananas, palm, and maize had poor productivity results, according to INEC data.
