An Annul of Correa’s Prohibition About Private Media Interviews is Asked

Fundamedios presented a protective action at the Courthouse in Quito

The Law Faculty of the Catholic University and the NGO Fundamedios, today asked a court to reverse the order from the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, which establishes that ministers do not have give interviews to private media.

In the brief submitted to the court, the measure is seen as “a violation of the freedom of thought and expression, freedom of information, equality and citizen participation“.

Correa issued a public disposition last June, when he also urged his followers not to buy what he defines as “the corrupt press“.

“Why our ministers have to go to Ecuavisa, Teleamazonas, El Universo Newspaper, for interviews if those are private businesses? Are we contributing on filling the pockets of the six families that dominate the media nationwide?”, the president asked himself. (MZ)
