An Ecuadorian Achuar will ‘crown’ King Carlos III of the United Kingdom
The coronation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and Queen Camilla is the most anticipated event of May 2023. The appointment, which will be this Saturday the 6th, will bring together characters from all over the world and Ecuador will also have representatives for this event.
In a conversation with the media, the British ambassador, Chris Campbell, has announced that representatives of Ecuador will be at the ceremony. One of them will be Foreign Minister Gustavo Manrique, who will participate as a delegate of the National Government.
The other Ecuadorian guest at the coronation ceremony for Carlos III and Camila is Domingo Peas. He is an Achuar leader who will participate as a special guest at the coronation ceremony. Peas, who is already in London, will take ancestral gifts made by his community for the new kings.
Domingo Peas will put a special crown on Carlos III
But before Charles III arrives at Westminster Abbey to be crowned on Saturday, the new King will have another crown in his hands this Thursday, May 4, 2023. It is a feather headdress that will be delivered by Domingo Peas at an event that will take place at 2:00 p.m. (London time) at Buckingham Palace.
The crown of feathers is a token of gratitude from the Amazonian peoples for the contribution of King Carlos III to the conservation of forests. It also symbolizes the commitment that they request from the new Monarch to stand firm in the defense of the rights of nature and the fight against climate change.
In an interview with the British outlet The Mirror, Domingo Peas points out that the crown is “a sign of respect. It is an honor that it is given to someone who is an authority, who has been, in this case King Carlos, very committed to the protection of biodiversity, to the protection of nature”.
In the audience that he will have with Carlos III, the Achuar leader hopes to put the crown of feathers on the king, but the final decision will be made by the monarch. For him, his mission in London is to deepen the alliance that Carlos III maintains with the environment.
It is not the first time he has met with the British monarch. In February 2023, Carlos III received him in his palace as part of an agenda that he maintained with environmental leaders from different parts of the world. At that time, Domingo Peas gave a necklace to the King.
