The Fourth Summit of Heads of State of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held at the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), in Quito, concluded yesterday with the approval of 20 policy statements.
After a long period of political pronouncements of several heads of state and foreign ministers of the 33 member nations, at 21:00 these documents were adopted by consensus and Danilo Medina, president of Dominican Republic, assumed the leadership of the CELAC for 2016.
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, handed over the pro tempore presidency to Medina in a protocol act that barely lasted a minute.
