Arconel approved the removal of electricity subsidy for industries
An increase of $ 1.19 per kilowatt hour to 12% of total industrial users; and $ 1.6 per kilowatt hour to 4% of total businesses shall apply from this month as a measure to reduce subsidies, explained yesterday in a bulletin the Agency for Regulation and Control of Electricity (Arconel for its Spanish acronym).
The decision was taken last December 31; the agency stressed that the measure is only for customers that use medium and high voltage; there is no variation for residential customers.
Roberto Villacreses, director of studies and projects of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce, explained that the amount approved by the Arconel will be added to the rate paid by these companies.
For example, if a factory paid 7 cents per kilowatt hour before, it willnow have to pay $ 1.19 more.
Francisco Alarcon, president of the Chamber of Industry, emphasized that the increase in the cost of electric energy in factories or shops is rising the costs of production.
