US removes labels for meat products
Posted On 04 Jan 2016
Americans will now have more difficulties in trying to figure out the origin of the animal whose red meat they are consuming. The Congress repealed a label law last month that forces retailers to include the country of origin of the beef or pork on the meat packages.
The meat industry fought against the bill in Congress and courts since 2000.
Lawmakers allege they had no choice but to revoke the rules after reiterated resolutions of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The body recently authorized Canada and Mexico to implement economic reprisals against the United States for more than $ 1,000 million.
