Argentine President Cristina Fernandez never had cancer even after she was diagnosed with the disease last month and having her thyroid gland removed on January 4. The surgery to remove the gland went well, but when it was later studied it turned out that it never contained cancerous cells.

Alfredo Scoccimaro, spokesman of the president stated, “The original diagnosis has been modified… the presence of cancer was discarded.” Fernandez had been originally diagnosed with papillary carcinoma. Buenos Aires thyroid cancer expert, Eduardo Faure, stated “a small number of these cases are ‘false positives,’ which means that no cancer is present.”

Afterwards Fernandez was sent home, as well as several hundred supporters that had camped out near the hospital where she was treated. A cheer went up from the crowd as Scoccimaro made the announcement. (AV)
