Ariel Castro’s brothers deny complicity
Pedro and Onil, Ariel Castro’s brothers, the accused of keeping in captivity three women over a decade in Cleveland, said during an interview with the journalist Martin Savidge, for CNN, that they were not aware of what his brother was doing, and that if they had known they would have reported Ariel.
Both were arrested along with Ariel Castro, last Monday, after the rescue of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, and a six-year-old girl. However, both Petdro and Onil were released hours later, since the police did not find any evidence that proved their involvement in the kidnapping.
The men also expressed in the interview that they feared never to get rid of the scrutiny, suspicion and stigma after having been arrested, because people throw stones against their homes and they have received online death threats.
“It will be something that will follow me since people are going to think, that I had something to do with this. And I had nothing to do with this,”said the brother of Ariel. Then, Onil added: “the people who knows me, knows that Onil Castro is not that person, and has nothing to do with this. I never would have thought to make a thing of this kind”.
For her part, Lilian Rodríguez, mother of the Castro brothers, said she was disappointed of what happened. “I have a sick son who has done something very serious. I am suffering a lot. I ask forgiveness for those mothers, girls forgive me. I am suffering because they have suffered. I am suffering through the pain of my son and my son is suffering, I have nothing to do with what my son did”, she said.
