Assembly discards five objections of the COIP
Of the objections submitted to the project Criminal Code (COIP)made by President Rafael Correa, the National Assembly discarded five. The new code was approved in the plenary yesterday.
The assembly members ratified with 113 votes in favor, five articles that were the subject of discussion since the Executive sent the project and that raised 73 observations.
Among the issues was the penalty for the non-registration of workers to the IESS, the substitution of preventive prison to pregnant women and the time limit for a woman serving her sentence after having given birth.
In addition they discarded the proposal made in Article 477 where the President recommended the inclusion of a clause stating that no judicial authorization was mandatory for recordings to be used as evidence in a judicial proceeding.
The norm will be sent to the Official Register for its publication and will enter into force 180 days after. During this period the members if the justice system will be trained and the previous codes will be applied until then.
