Assembly rejects to start criminal proceedings against President Correa
This morning, the plenary session of the Assembly did not authorize the initiation of criminal proceedings against President Rafael Correa, with 64 votes against (blank votes included) and 44 in favor.
The criminal complaint against the president for alleged libel was presented by Edgar Coral Almedida because of the comments made by Correa in one of his Saturday’s broadcast, in which he was called “land trafficker,” among other epithets, which according to Coral’s opinion are words that are against his honor and reputation.
Paco Moncayo (Alianza Libertad party), Andrés Páez (ID party) and Cesar Montufar (Concertación Nacional party), and others legislators who attended the meeting, sent “a message to the President” and said to him: “Stop this way to govern.” Moncayo and Paez recalled some appeals by President Correa: mayor of 20 blocks, childish of Guayaquil, garbage, scums, constipated face, cheer leaders of the neoliberalism, idiot, disable, half man, half woman, narco politicians; adding that he was not the only one with honor and family.
