Floods in Ecuador

Several Ecuadorian provinces in the coast were struck by the harsh winter, the most damaged were Los Rios, Guayas, Azuay and Esmeraldas, among others. The roads are damaged, while homes and crops continue to fall due to fierce weather.

Meanwhile in Manabi, a man died after being struck by a lightning. In the parish of Salitre (Guayas), 40 families were evacuated due to the floods. The temporal closing of the bridge La Chorrera, in lane to Babahoyo–Quevedo forced hundreds of people had to walk in order to get away from the floods.

Last Tuesday, three vehicles collapsed in the road and turned over to the flooded ditch. So far the merciless weather has claimed a total of 37 people in the whole country. Holguer Martillo, 12, was one of the latest victims when he fell into the current of the river Los Laureles last Monday, his corpse was found 200 meters of that location. (AV)
