Maricela Cristina Ushigua,21, gave birth to a girl during the flight of a Cessna 206 aircraft, when she was being transferred due to a late delivery of about four days.
The doctor of the Air Ambulance, Gina Orrala, confirmed that once they landed, mother and daughter were attended by doctors and that mother and daughter were stable. The newborn weighed seven pounds and both were taken to the provincial hospital in Puyo.
Meanwhile, in Riobamba, a woman gave birth in the bathroom of the Emergency Room of the Teaching General Hospital.
Relatives said they sought medical care, but the medical staff asked them to wait.
“Finally, a nurse came after a comfortable nap and saw the baby on the floor, then gave him first aid and cut the umbilical cord,” said Manuel NN, witness.
