Banana emergency call to ministry extended to 4 weeks

Banana producers not convinced announced the extension of emergency decreed banana on 13 July and ended on September 7, decreed by Javier Ponce, Minister of Agriculture.
They claim that two weeks is not enough, and that the Ministry should consider four weeks to make the process of spraying against black sigatoka in farms of up to ten hectares.
However, Ponce said yesterday that the expansion to four weeks was not necessary.
On Tuesday September 18, the minister said that the extension was not necessary since the purpose of the emergency purchase was small banana producers and the fumigation of the fruit.
