Banana Industry Will Create a Database
The representatives of the banana industry and the vice minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, Ivan Wong met to create a data base with the IRS, Magap, Customs office and the Central bank. This plan looks to verify the current state of contracts of purchase and sales.
This conclusion was reached after the small and medium producers asked the official to control the official price of the banana crate that is of $5,50. Which seems to have been disrespected by contracts that evade their legality.
Jorge Toapanta, of the ‘Asociacion de Bananeros Orenses’ (ABO) explained that the objective is to give transparency to that information and create database. This would correct the discrepancies and even the illegalities established in the contracts, he also proposed to perform a banana census.
Toapanta added, “the regime could help the industry by nullifying shady contracts that are plagued with addenda not presented in the Magap, like the offers made lately by the buyers of the fruit.” (AV)
