Banana: topics that are not addressed at the summits
In the past five years, in international events held in Guayaquil has been common to see experts (a foreign majority) discuss the same issues: the fusarium or race 4 diseases of Panama bananas and the control of the black sigatoka disease. But there are issues that are not being addressed in the forums.
The last Congress was held last month by the Exporters Association (AEBE) and yesterday began the VI World Summit in charge of the Association of Graduates from Zamorano, the coast of Ecuador and Agerath (Association of Graduates of Earth).
Victor Hugo Quimi, one of the country’s most prestigious technicians, speaks of three pillars that go unnoticed: new phytosanitary problems, improvement of productivity through childcare or management of new diseases and banana companies.
Banana is the largest generator of foreign exchange. Until August (January) of 2015 it allowed the entry of $ 1,926 million compared to $ 1,500 million from shrimp, $ 643.8 million from canned fish and $ 586 million from flowers.
