Bashar al-Assad talks of the Media War in Syria

President Bashar al-Assad told a Russian broadcaster that the media war with the West was lost the day that the Syrian uprising began on March of 2011. Now the authorities in Syria seem ready to start another round by showing to the world the foreign mercenaries captured in Syria.

Bashar al-Assad said that, “the reality is what really matters and not the illusions created by the media.” Al-Assad said that the media outplayed the Syrian government in the beginning of the conflict by creating stories and spreading false rumors.

Al-Assad stated that they tried to talk to numerous international journalists, but the agencies kept sending to Syria people that would stick to the lies and false rumors. Regarding the six point peace plan of the UN, al-Assad said that the only positive result of the mission arrival was a decrease in direct military confrontation with the opposition due to the redeployment of troops.

The president also said that the Syrian National Council, an “opposition” operating from abroad, has little or no influence on what really is happening in Syria. Al-Assad described the Free Syrian Army (FSA) as a crowd of convicted criminals and compared them to al-Qaeda type religious fanatics, extremists and terrorists. (AV)
